  1. Palazzo Reale

    The Royal Palace of Turin is a majestic building that was built in the 16th century. Resident in Piazza Castello, the Palace holds a central role in Turin and has been a symbol of power for hundreds of years. A simple design with a square plan and a central courtyard has been chosen – the front façade features white stonework and several small ornate windows that create a building that looks stately and official.

    Possibly the most distinct building in the whole of Turin, the Mole Antonelliana rises above the skyline and its wide, pointed basilica is an emblem of the region. Mole in Italian actually means a monumental building and this particular mole was created in 1889, although it looks much older. Originally a Jewish synagogue, the building now houses the National Cinema Museum and is actually the tallest museum in the world. At night, the building's basilica is lit up and acts as a beacon visible from many places in the city. A trip to Turin is not complete.

    This wonderful and informative museum is situated between Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello in the center of Turin. Dedicated to ancient Egyptian archaeology and culture, this museum is a culture of dream buffs and contains a vast number of artifacts and displays. Created in 1833, the initial collection was imported from other museums and has been greatly expanded over the years.

    Founded on the site of three previous churches, the Duomo di Torino is a fine example of the Renaissance architecture that was founded in 1491. Situated next to the Royal Palace, this church is dedicated to the patron saint of Turin, Giovanni Battista. The front façade is made of white marble and is simple but efficient and the attractive steps lead out into Piazza San Giovanni. Inside the cathedral is a multitude of architectural features, including some spectacular frescoes and marble statues of prominent religious figures. In reality, a free standing bell tower stands unconnected to the cathedral and can be climbed for amazing views of the cathedral.

There are also a multitude of walking and cycling paths, open pastures and a great walk along the river.     One of the many Roman ruins still standing in modern Turin today, the Porta Palatina has acted as the best preserved Roman gateway in the world since the 1st century. Originally, this huge gateway would have served as an access point to the inner city center through the city walls that once surrounded the ancient Turin. Two large circular towers flank the gateway and are decorated with crenulations and the central wall section contains many individual arches. The gateway and towers are located at a distance of 30 m and 26 m respectively.
