How Carbon-Neutral Coach Hire Works

Booking a carbon-neutral coach with Irro Charter is simple and transparent. Before your journey, we can already provide an estimate of the expected carbon emissions for your trip.

Once the journey has been completed, we calculate the actual carbon dioxide emissions based on the kilometres driven. The corresponding compensation amount is then calculated and shown separately on your invoice.

Importantly, we pass the offset payment directly to ClimatePartner on a 1:1 basis without adding any extra fees or margins. After completion, you will receive a certificate confirming your carbon-neutral coach hire, which can also be included in your own sustainability or carbon reporting.

How Emissions Are Calculated

An average touring coach with 32 to 58 seats emits approximately 1.4 kg of carbon dioxide per kilometre. The average cost of offsetting 1,000 kg (1 tonne) of CO₂ is approximately €19, based on the average pricing of ClimatePartner-certified compensation projects.

This means that even longer journeys can often be offset for only a small additional contribution – helping make group travel more sustainable without significantly affecting overall travel costs.

Example Calculation

A coach charter from Hamburg Airport to Bremen and back using a 49-seat coach covers approximately 280 kilometres. This results in emissions of around 392 kg of CO₂.

The required compensation payment for this journey would amount to approximately €7.44, shown transparently as a separate item on your invoice.
