Irro Corporate Carbon Footprint

With our first Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) for the year 2020, we are laying the foundation for an annual and regular analysis of the company's carbon footprint. Together with Climate Partner we have carried out and now completed this analysis.

2020 Results

In 2020, we emitted a total of 2,507.4t of carbon dioxide. The major part, namely 1.7t CO2, is accounted for by direct emissions (Scope 1), which mainly include our vehicle fleet. The second-largest item is upstream chain emissions (indirect, Scope 2), which occur for purchased energy. There are also smaller shares for capital goods, water, employee travel, business trips and upstream emissions from purchased transport services (e.g. charters).

In order to put the values determined into perspective, it is worth looking beyond the end of one's nose. First of all, the carbon dioxide emissions of the 2020 company are roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of around 232 adults in Germany.

Now, the year 2020 was marked by the corona pandemic, which led to a significant reduction in the number of kilometers driven in travel and charter traffic. We therefore developed another ratio for Irro: Carbon dioxide emission per kilometer driven (all vehicles in the fleet). This value is 0.011t (or 11.14kg). With this value, we will be able to compare the ratio to emissions in the coming years, even with more or less kilometers driven.
